Be a Mentor to a New Mom!

August 8th, 2017

Naomi Project, a program of Britepaths, is seeking volunteers to serve as mentors to new or expecting mothers in Northern Virginia to help them have healthy pregnancies and establish healthy and nurturing practices for raising their babies. We have a great need for bilingual volunteers who speak Spanish, but we welcome all interested adult volunteers.

Naomi Project will hold a training session for new volunteers on Saturday, September 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Kelly Square in Fairfax City, 10777 Main Street, Third Floor, Fairfax, VA 22030.

Interested volunteers are asked to RSVP and submit a completed application form along with a $35 nonrefundable registration fee to cover costs associated with the training in advance of the training date.

After participating in the required training session, volunteers are matched in one-on-one mentoring relationships with at-risk pregnant and newly parenting women. The Naomi Project makes a commitment to be with the women referred to the program until their children reach the age of three.

The training is all day, and begins with registration and light refreshments at 8:30 a.m. The training usually concludes around 3:30 p.m. Lunch is provided. Training sessions include an overview of the Naomi Project, what it means to be a mentor, presentations by active mentors and Area Coordinators, an informational session by a public health nurses, and a session on resources and developing the mentor-client relationship.
