Mentor Training Information

Next Naomi Project Mentor Training: TBD

Email naomiproject@outlook.com or call 703.860.2633 to let them know you'd like to be notified about the next training.

The Naomi Project generally holds two volunteer mentor trainings per year.  It is important that the program attract volunteers with language skills representing the ethnically diverse nature of the community. Bilingual volunteers who speak Spanish are greatly needed. English-only volunteers also welcome. Trainings average 20 new volunteers per year. Of these, more than half of our trained volunteers take on a new referral when their first match has ended.

After participating in the required training session, volunteers are matched in one-on-one mentoring relationships with at-risk pregnant and newly parenting women. The Naomi Project makes a commitment to be with the women referred to the program until their children reach the age of three.

The training is all day, and begins with registration and light refreshments at 8:30 a.m. The training usually concludes around 4 p.m. Lunch is provided. Training sessions include an overview of the Naomi Project, what it means to be a mentor, presentations by active mentors and Area Coordinators, an informational session by a public health nurses, and a session on resources and developing the mentor-client relationship.
