Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) Tax Credit

Virginia Tax Credits Available!

Support a worthy cause while saving on taxes. Virginia’s Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) was created to encourage public support of efforts benefiting primarily low-income and disadvantaged people. Businesses, trusts and individuals that make donations to approved nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations like Britepaths can receive tax credits of up to 65% of the donation to be applied against their Virginia state income tax liability.

Tax credits are more effective than a deduction because they directly reduce your taxes due, dollar-for-dollar. As a bonus, your contribution is 100% deductible on your federal return. You won’t receive a refund from the state if the credit exceeds your liability, but any unused credits can be carried forward for up to five consecutive tax years.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION FOR BRITEPATHS

Individuals or married couples that pay Virginia state income tax and make a minimum donation of $500 to Britepaths are eligible for tax credits.

Businesses licensed in Virginia, and trusts subject to Virginia taxes, are eligible for tax credits on a minimum donation of $616.

Donations may be in the form of cash or marketable securities.

  • Donations to Britepaths of $500–$999 are eligible for tax credits equal to 45% of the donation value.
  • Donations of $1,000–$2,499 are eligible for tax credits equal to 55% of donation value.
  • Donations of $2,500 or more are eligible for the maximum, 65% of donation value.
