We are so excited for Sharon. She stopped by recently to tell Sally that she passed the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam! She's at right in the photo below.
Sharon was in the first cohort of our Avenues to Career Training (ACT) program last fall (previously known as the Pre-Apprenticeship Program). It's an 8-week program that enriches reading, writing and math skills using contextualized healthcare instruction to help community members who need some extra support prepare to train for skilled jobs in healthcare. After completing our program, Sharon enrolled in Northern Virginia Community College's CCMA Workforce program in Woodbridge and just completed the 10-week program. She is interested in phlebotomy, and her next steps include an externship and then the start of a new career.
ACT is based at our Financial Empowerment Center at South County and is a partnership with Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community Development. It is made possible through a grant from Fairfax County Government and the generosity of supporters like YOU! Thank you for helping Sharon on her way to a brighter future.
