Thank you to our 2022 Food Pantry Supporters! Here are photos and stories about many of them:

Apple Federal Credit Union holiday food drive December 2022
Our friends at Apple Federal Credit Union support Britepaths’ work in a number of ways throughout the year. They ran a food drive in October and November at all 21 of their branches to benefit several area nonprofits, and all of these amazing donations are just a portion of what they received. They donated 818.5 pounds of food and supplies, valued at more than $1,400! We are grateful for all the ways Apple FCU employees and members help our families!

Rummel Kleppen & Kahl food drive December 2022
Rummel, Klepper & Kahl ran a holiday food drive and chose Britepaths as the beneficiaries. John McDowell and Ann McIntyre delivered nearly 100 pounds of pantry donations on December 2.

Susan Mannion Windsor Hills Neighborhood donation
Susan Mannion collected food from her neighbors in Windsor Hills in Fairfax and delivered the donations on November 18.

Flint Hill School food pantry donation November 15 2022
Students at Flint Hill School in Oakton collected food for Thanksgiving baskets to donate to Cornerstones, but a lot of donations came in after the baskets had been delivered, so Jen McKain brought the additional donations and some grocery store gift cards to our Pantry when she heard about our big need.

The Woman’s Club of Fairfax saw our Facebook post about our great need for Pantry donations, and they shared our post and also collected some wonderful food and supplies for us.

Heather Zwicker Fairfax County Times food donation
Heather Zwicker, editor of the Fairfax County Times, saw our post about needing food donations on social media and went out and picked up all of these great items! She brought them to the office on November 14.

JC Penney employees food pantry donation
We’re grateful to JC Penney (District 8291) employees for running a food drive to help stock our pantry! Marie (at right with our Programs Manager Mila) delivered the donations on November 8. She said, “The JCP district #8291 store teams wanted to give back and, we were interested in your organization because it appears that your team tries to help the individuals in need to obtain employment…and anything that they may be struggling with to get them back on their feet. It is especially comforting to know there are people out there who are available to support people in need. We appreciate all you do to help people in our community, and we are happy to do our part with this donation of food for your pantry.”

Pantry Inventory Volunteers, October 10, 2022
A huge thanks to our 15 wonderful volunteers who came out on October 10 to help us weigh and restock the food and supplies in our emergency pantry. We need to conduct a pantry inventory each quarter, and it’s a big job! This group did a terrific job and finished inventory in less than 1.5 hours. They are the fastest group we’ve seen yet.

Steven Carrion and Gabriel Derosier of MainStreet Bank in Britepaths' pantry
A big thank you to Steven Carrion and Gabriel Derosier for their amazing donation of nearly 280 pounds of greatly needed food and supplies to our emergency pantry on October 4. They also both volunteer with Britepaths and the Financial Empowerment Center to assist our families and strengthen our organization, and their employer MainStreet Bank is a great supporter of our work.

A big thank you to our friends at Rotary Club of Fairfax for running a food drive in August and September to help our families! Their generous members donated a variety of food and some greatly needed funds to help local families in crisis. Rotary member Jennifer Rose (right) stopped by with some donations a few weeks ago. She’s in the pic with our Programs Manager Mila Cobos. Jennifer used to work with us at Britepaths and she is now the Executive Director of the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce. Grateful to her for encouraging her friends and colleagues to support our work while wearing her many hats.

Leslie Woods (left), a former Financial Assistance Volunteer, brought us some wonderful pantry donations on August 10. She’s with our Office Administrator Litzy Morales

This is the *first* of *two* generous shipments for our pantry that our great friend and former Board Member Kären Rasmussen and her family foundation The Starfish Foundation of Fairfax sent us on July 26 when she heard our pantry was running low. She is also the founder of No Child Goes Hungry, which supports our Food4Thought program. We’re grateful for her ongoing support of our food insecurity efforts.

A big thank you to the 10 volunteers who came out on July 13 to help with the quarterly inventory and weighing of the food and supplies in our Emergency Food Pantry! They also helped with other office projects.

Sydenstricker UMC Vacation Bible School summer 2022
We’re grateful to the 5th & 6th grade students from Sydenstricker United Methodist Church Vacation Bible School for visiting us in June to learn about our work. They helped organize our Emergency Pantry and do a packing of food and supplies for a family, and played the Budget Bean Game.

Ms. M has two young children. She came to our pantry on June 16 and picked up an emergency packing of food and supplies from the pantry, along with grocery store gift cards and Our Daily Veggies vouchers. She is so grateful to receive this assistance during this stressful time in their lives, and we share her gratitude to all our generous supporters who are donating food and funds.

The employees of McLean-based Coverent held a food drive and delivered some greatly needed food on June 8. Coverent’s Jeff Leoung is at left with our summer intern Litzy Morales.

Ken Kozloff with Food Pantry donations
Longtime supporter and Financial Empowerment volunteer Ken Kozloff heard that our pantry supplies were running low, so he went to the store, filled up his car and delivered 137 pounds of our most-needed food and supplies. Thank you for ALL you do to help make life better for our families, Ken!

Keegan family food drive
A huge thank you to Lyle Keegan for running a food drive to help stock our Emergency Pantry. Lyle is 13 years old. Her mom delivered the 197.6 pounds of needed food and supplies to our office on April 29.

We had a huge amount of food donations to weigh and put away in early March. We put out the word, and Amini Bonane and Nate Bunger, along with two other volunteers came in on March 11 to help. They’re pictured here with our Office Administrator Cecilia LeGrand (holding the Britepaths t-shirt). We’re grateful to them for helping out.

We are grateful to the Springfield District Democrats for running a food drive in February to help stock our Pantry. Co-Vice Chair Donna Reid delivered more than 600 pounds of our most-needed items. In the pic are Britepaths’ Cecilia LeGrand and Mila Cobos with the donations. We also received $150 in grocery store gift cards. We’re grateful to the members of Springfield Democratic Committee for their generous donations. And a special shout-out to SDDC members Jane Barker and Sen. George Barker, who also support our Food Bridge families each year through the Democratic Women of Clifton & Northern Virginia’s annual holiday drive. Read the Connection article.

The Myterra Homeowners Association ran a food drive to benefit our families. On March 2, Katherine delivered 165.5 pounds of food and supplies, and a check for $250, which will assist local families in crisis. We’re grateful to these caring neighbors.

The Bengals Won, And So Did Our Families!

Stephanie McCarthy and Janet Jaworski, organizers of the Hugo the Gargoyle Little Free Library “Souper Bowl” food drive in Fairfax City. So many generous community members got involved in this fun and creative food drive, with Twins Ace Hardware Fairfax and Chubby Squirrel Brewing Company also running drives. The Rams beat the Bengals for the most items donated (307 to 259), but our families are the big winners! On February 22, we received the final donations of food and supplies for our pantry, valued at more than $1,000: 362 pounds from Hugo the Gargoyle, 196 pounds from Twins Ace and 24 pounds from Chubby Squirrel. We’re grateful to all who donated! A special thanks to City of Fairfax government, Fire Department and Police Department for spreading the word.

Young Men's Service League of Vienna-Oakton in Pantry
Volunteers and their friends from the Young Men’s Service League Vienna-Oakton Chapter came in on January 21 to help us weigh and restock the food and supplies in our emergency pantry. We need to conduct a pantry inventory each quarter, and it’s a big job! They have volunteered with us in various capacities for several years, and we appreciate their ongoing support.

A huge thank you to Social4Good for selecting Britepaths as their local nonprofit to support for January 2022. Angie Delboy (pictured) is a member of Britepaths’ Board of Directors and Social4Good. They organized a drive and filled our pantry with $2,000 worth of toiletries!
