Gift of Books, Reading for Local Children

Britepaths’ The Secret Garden was featured on the front page of the Fairfax Connection’s July edition for an article titled “Books Give Children a ‘Window to the World”. The article documents the June 18 ribbon-cutting ceremony unveiling The Secret Garden, a cozy in-office book nook where children in the community can select new and like-new books to take home and build their own home libraries. It describes the initiative’s purpose: to inspire imagination, foster a love of reading, and help close the literacy gap for children whose families have to prioritize essentials such as food and housing.

The piece features remarks from Britepaths Executive Director Abra Kurt, who shared her lifelong passion for reading and emphasized that access to books should be a right, not a privilege. The article also includes reflections from early childhood leaders and community partners, including Kimberly Reinhard,
immediate past president of the Northern Virginia Association for the Education of Young
Children
, on the critical role literacy plays in lifelong learning and opportunity.
