Back to School Fair

Join Britepaths in preparing local students and families for a strong start to the new school year. We are seeking volunteers to support our Back to School Fair on July 25, 4:00-7:30pm, July 26, 10:30am-5:30pm, and July 29, 4:00-7:30pm, where we will provide essential school supplies, pantry items, and community resources to Northern Virginia families. Mandatory Volunteer Training: Attendance for a 1-hour overview session on either Wednesday, July 23rd, 6-7pm, or Thursday, July 24th, 10:30am-11:30am is be required. Optional assistance with setting up the event will take place from 11:30am-1:30pm.

Volunteers must be 16 years or older, comfortable standing or walking for extended periods, and able to engage respectfully and warmly with diverse families. Volunteers with bilingual skills in Spanish, Farsi, or Dari are highly encouraged to sign up.

Volunteer Responsibilities Include:

  • Registration/Check-In: Welcome families, verify appointments, and help manage the flow of guests.
  • Pantry Packing: Assemble family-specific care packages including diapers, wipes, and other health and hygiene items, record items distributed, and assist with weighing packs for our records.
  • Event Floaters: Support multiple activity areas:
    • Guide families to The Secret Garden at Britepaths and assist children in choosing books
    • Distribute and collect surveys
    • Refer families to information/resource tables
    • Support kids’ and teens’ activity stations
    • Answer general questions and ensure a welcoming, smooth experience.
